Full 'ownership' of the World Cup content of one of the biggest names in online, including bespoke promotional opportunities

Tell us about the Opportunity / What is it?

In order to enhance AOL members enjoyment of World Cup 2006, we will be producing a dedicated World Cup microsite containing a host of interactive content, including match reports, stats, trivia and games, guaranteeing a huge online audience and long dwell times. The sponsor of AOL's World Cup content will recieve 100% ownership of this content rich area making them synonymous with the World Cup to our members, including high impact sponsor accreditation, large format ad inventory and the opportunity to extend this association to include bespoke promotions

What is the Marketing Objective?

Brand awareness, plus the opportunity to use the platform in order to deliver on specific objectives, e.g. competition entry, advertorial, traffic to website etc

How does it work?

All of AOL's World Cup content will be housed in a special microsite, which will be THE destination for our members during the tournament. As evidenced during previous tournaments, this guarantees a huge audience of football fans in a perfect environment for delivering associated branding/promotional messages. The AOL sponsorship package delivers a number of levels of association including awareness driving sponsorship placements, interactive advertising inventory, and editorial placements which can link directly to advertorials, sponsors site etc

Who's used it in the past?

Green Flag Insurance used AOL's coverage of Euro 2004 as a platform to drive awareness of their sponsorship of the England Football team, and also to increase general awareness of the company and it's benefits. The association exceeded all expectations for Green Flag, delivering awareness and product information to over 300,000 football fans over the 1 month period of activity, who were exposed to over 6 branded pages per user.
